How does it all work?

Funders

The NLGBA functions as a voluntary not-for-profit organisation. Our core funding, which we have to apply for on a regular basis, is currently supplied by Northamptonshire County Council, Northampton Borough Council, Northamptonshire Police Authority, Single Regeneration Budget 6 (SRB6) and Northamptonshire Primary Care Trust (NHS). Other funding is sought from various bodies such as The National Lottery, and Comic Relief when needed for a specific project. We also charge fees for certain training and consultancy services, hire out meeting rooms in our offices and benefit from private donations.

Executive Committee

The NLGBA is managed by a volunteer committee consisting of a Chair, a Secretary, a Treasurer and up to 9 additional committee members. These people are elected annually by our members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) or may be co-opted by the committee if they have specific skills or experience that will further the work of NLGBA. The executive committee is responsible for making decisions about our aims and objectives and how we spend our money. They are also the people to whom all staff are ultimately responsible. A copy of our constitution is available here.

Staff

NLGBA currently employs 1 full time, 1 part time and a number of sessional staff. We also have a full time Connexions Personal Advisor working in partnership.

Volunteers

In order to deliver the range of services we offer the Alliance depends greatly on the good will and dedication of its many volunteers. Some of these people joined the Alliance as service users themselves and are now helping us to continue to offer these quality services to our ever-expanding membership. Working in a variety of ways from office administration to running groups and events we simply wouldn’t be able to do all that we do without them. If you think that you would like to volunteer with us or would like more information about volunteering click here.

Expert Reference Group (ERG)

The ERG gives service users and volunteers the opportunity to express their views on the services that we offer and suggest ways in which they can be improved. They work closely with the group co-ordinators who then discuss any proposals or suggestions with the Executive Committee or staff members.
