Positive In Northamptonshire – Funding Cut
Importantly people will now have no choice of where support services come from which for many will be a real barrier to care: Sigma research found that HIV infected people generally but particularly people who also have immigration or asylum matters to deal with do not wish to access local government services and prefer the independence of the voluntary sector. The funding cuts follow formal complaints that PIN made against Council managers and staff that are still being investigated and formal legal action is now being considered by PIN bosses. Dr Ian McCormick – PIN Co. Secretary said “The rights of people with HIV infection have been seriously violated and the Council is in breach of an incredible breadth of policy prescribed by local, regional and central government. To wipe out the voluntary sector and its excellence in service quality is a farce. It is a fiasco that these highly paid Council officials can bring to the end a highly performing and professional organisation with hundreds of service users because of their bungling incompetence”. PIN will no longer provide home care services but will continue it’s
information and advice service and it’s crisis fund. For details
