JOINING TOGETHER FOR BREAST CANCER October was Breast Cancer Awareness month, supported by Cancer Research UK: a time to take positive action against an illness that more than 100 women and men in the UK are diagnosed with everyday. The theme for this year was ‘All Join Together’ and NLGBA joined in by holding a week long series of events to raise money for vital research into the disease. We kicked off on a very cold and wet Sunday afternoon with our Pink Pet Show in Abington Park. Prizes were awarded for Pet With the Softest Coat, Best Condition, Pet With the Most Appealing Eyes and Campest Pet, amongst others.
Then we had a Bring & Buy Cake Stall at Charles House which saw some wonderful culinary creations from Christmas cakes to vegan gingerbread. Lesbian Line held a Giant Games Night, which was not an invitation to local giants, more giant versions of old favourites. This was a very popular night and was the event that raised the most money. The poor office staff were also roped in as we held a Pink Office day where everyone had to wear pink and pay for the privilege to do so! Finally we rounded off the week with a Pink Party at Orton’s with balloons, streamers and a few fondant fancies. All in all we raised over £200 which went directly to Cancer research UK, who spend over £20 million every year in breast cancer research. Thank you to all who joined in.
