e-volution’s Euro-hit

Dr Ian McCormick (Chair NLGBA) joined forces with Jayne West (Northamptonshire Arts Collective) to run a major international cultural and social regeneration event at University College Northampton (UCN) on 16th February. The event attracted major speakers such as architect Will Alsop; Andy Clarke (Northampton Partnership); Mick Young; broadcaster David Saint and international urban visionary Franco Bianchini. There were over twenty exhibitors with colourful stalls showing development plans for Northampton and the county. There was a strong showing from the voluntary sector, represented by Clubs for Young People (CYPN), Council on Addiction (CAN), Northamptonshire Foundation and NLGBA whose services were featured on a centre stage exhibition stall. Judith Ackroyd, UCN’s Associate Dean commented:

“The event was a huge success. With thoughtful organisation, challenging and exciting speakers and almost 140 visitors it had to be a winner. There was a remarkable collection of people. It has led to calls for more such debates, for lectures and other events from without and within the institution. We will satisfy them!”

Emily Tavokoly representing NLGBA’s “e-volution” project said that the event was a great opportunity to showcase the skills and creative energy of the lesbian, gay, and bisexual community and their contribution to life in Northamptonshire.
